Being able to share picture books with students in the midst of virtual learning was something I felt was SO important. That is why I created these digital classroom library shelves. In Google Slides, students simply click on the book and it will take them to a video of the read aloud.
I have created digital bookshelves based on months and themes. You can check out ALL of them in my Google Drive folder.
If you’re looking to create a digital bookshelf and have videos of YOU reading the book, you can follow these simple steps…
- Check the publisher of the book to make sure it’s okay to record the title you’ve selected. Most publishers are allowing teachers to record books until June 30, 2021. Also, many publishers require to you state the name, author, and publishing company at the beginning of the video.
- Record the book on your phone or computer.
- Upload the video to YouTube as UNLISTED (This means only the people with the link will be able to view that video.)
- In Google Slides, insert a picture of the front cover of the book to the slide. (You can find blank shelves that you can fill with your own books in my Google Drive Folder.)
- Click on the picture book cover to “Insert a link”. Copy the link of your video on YouTube of you reading the book to GoogleSlides.
- Now students will be able to click on the book and the link will pop up for them to watch the video of YOU reading to them.
